Event: IDITAROD SLED DOG RACE

Month: MARCH

City: ANCHORAGE

Begins: Mar-02-2025
Ends: Mar-16-2025

Description: Sled dogs used to be the most practical form of travel in Alaska back in the turn of the 20th century. Teams from around the world travel to Alaska each March to participate in the 1,150-mile dog-mushing race from Willow to Nome, a town steeped in Gold Rush history. The population of Nome grows by more than 1,000 people during the biggest party of the year to honor the victors of the Last Great Race. Winter visitors to Alaska can watch the ceremonial start in Anchorage followed by the official start the following day in Willow and then make their way north to Nome, seven or eight days later, to welcome the first-place musher and his winning team.
